eNews Monthly
Veterans Day
Image

With the month of November comes an important nationwide milestone to pay tribute to the brave men and women who protect our country’s freedoms. Veterans Day falls annually on November 11th and honors all military veterans who have served our nation. For the November edition of the eNews, our team at C.I.A. Services finds it important to highlight the courage, sacrifice, and devotion of the veterans who fight for our rights. As we reflect on the service of our veterans, we are reminded of the value in expressing our gratitude and support for those who have valiantly worn our nation’s uniform.

The men and women who serve in the U.S. Armed Forces come from all walks of life. They are parents; they are children. They are brothers and sisters. They are spouses. They are friends, neighbors, colleagues. They are everyday people who have done the extraordinary. At C.I.A. Services, we are fortunate to have many members of our team who have answered this selfless call to serve. We would like to take this opportunity to recognize and thank our C.I.A. Services family members for their service.

Thank you for your dedication, sacrifice, and commitment to our country. We are proud to have you as part of our team!

Leticia “Letty” Burchard, Access Technician and Maintenance Coordinator, served in the United States Coast Guard from 1980 to 1984. Following boot camp in New Jersey, she was stationed in Long Island, New York. Often described as the “police on the water,” the Coast Guard played an important role in inspecting vessels and identifying illegal cargo. Letty monitored radio communications, assisted boaters, responded to accidents, and helped investigate suspicious items and incidents in the water alongside her crew.

Charles Driskell, Maintenance Coordinator, joined the United States Coast Guard in 1983, where he began training as a Storekeeper (E-1). Although medical issues ultimately prevented him from continuing his military training, we appreciate his willingness to serve and his commitment to answering the call to duty.

Keli Ozuna, Community Manager, joined the United States Navy in 2011. She completed boot camp and A School in Great Lakes, Illinois. During this time, she developed engineering, firefighting, and electrical skills needed to become a Gas Turbine Systems Technician (Electrical). She was subsequently stationed aboard the USS Pinckney, where she deployed to the U.S. 5th and 7th Fleet Areas of Operations in direct support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Following her sea duty, Keli was stationed at Naval Medical Center San Diego. Here she received the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal to celebrate the superior performance of her duties and her life-saving efforts. After nearly eight years of honorable service, Keli was medically retired from the Navy.

Patrick Sheffield, Maintenance Coordinator, enlisted in the United States Army as an Infantryman in June 1980 at just 17 years old. He served until October 1983, specializing in small-arms combat training across a variety of weather conditions and terrain. Patrick was assigned to Georgia for his basic training and his first duty station: he trained at Fort Benning and was assigned to Fort Stewart. In his military career, he ultimately earned the rank of Private First Class through his meticulous and selfless efforts. He trained in challenging environments, including Alaska and the Florida Everglades, and conducted countless nights of field exercises in the Georgia woods.

Eric Somers, Maintenance Coordinator, served in the United States Navy for eight years after enlisting in 2006. During his service, he worked as a Navy Diver, and he specialized in Diving and Salvage Warfare as well as Expeditionary Combat. His overseas assignments included Fujairah and Kuwait, where he worked alongside Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) teams conducting Anti-Terrorism Force Protection dives. Throughout his enlistment, Eric accumulated more than 500 hours of incident-free dive time and earned multiple medals and awards in recognition of his brave, meticulous service efforts.

To Letty, Charles, Keli, Patrick, Eric, and all veterans who have served our country, thank you for your service! We are grateful for the opportunity to work alongside you and recognize the dedication and experiences you bring to our C.I.A. Services family.
