Kim Moore, Executive Vice President, passed away on Sunday, April 21st, shortly after being diagnosed with glioblastoma, a very aggressive form of brain cancer.
Kim joined C.I.A. Services in 1998 and celebrated her 25th work anniversary last year. In addition to her Executive Vice President title, she was also our Director of Human Resources and a Community Manager.
She was an integral part of our organization and brought much mentorship, dedication, and laughter to our workplace. But most importantly, Kim was our cherished friend, and her passing leaves an irreplaceable void in our hearts.
This special edition of our eNews Monthly is in dedication to Kim.
On Sunday, May 19th, we hosted a Celebration of Life for Kim at our Houston office. As was typical of Kim, she had already determined what this event would look like. A lover of crawfish, Kim had asked that everyone gather for a crawfish boil, great music, fun times, and sharing of special memories. So, that’s exactly what we did!
Texas Mesquite Grill prepared the crawfish onsite. We had plenty of other goodies and treats on hand, too. DJ Damond Stewart with MixDoctors was playing all of Kim’s favorite tunes. Kim’s godson, Taeden Fields, and Melody Lihou performed a very touching cello performance of Cold Heart by Elton John & Dua Lipa, one of Kim’s favorite songs.
Many were adorned in blue and or sparkly clothes or wore special shirts made in support of Kim. Stories were shared, games were played, and per Kim’s instructions, no tears were shed (okay, maybe a few tears).
Thank you to everyone who joined us in person or in spirit. There were so many friends, clients, coworkers, and family members who celebrated Kim with us. The sheer volume of attendees is a testament to Kim’s positive impact on the people around her.
During the Celebration of Life, we asked the guests to share any heartfelt words and stories they might have regarding their memories with Kim. We are pleased to share those with you in this issue.
From Her Family
She was my person. She was my son Taeden’s person. She always was there for all. I will remember her laugh and smile. I can’t put into words the hole I feel but also the joy she is in Heaven. Love you girl till we see each other again.
~ Bridget Fields
We are going to miss Kim so much. Such a wonderful sister-in-law. Her smile lit up the room. She had a heart of gold. You will truly be missed.
~ Tiwonna Moore
She was a great daughter-in-law (Love you Kim) for loving my son, also thank you for the great memories.
~ Jackson Moore
I moved to Houston from Florida with no family & Pastor Moore & the Moore Family took me in as a spiritual daughter. Blood wouldn’t make us closer. I was blessed to have Kim as a sister in love. She was always smiling full of life like a ray of sunshine. I looked forward to the holidays for family game time & to indulge and one of my favorite things she would make one of her famous creations: a delightful charcuterie board. Everything was about presentation, one of the many things we had in common other than our name. She and I were like kindred spirits.
The last fond memory of her was going on a spontaneous "Girls Date Night" to see the Sound of Freedom. We both left there, in tears heartbroken and motivated to do whatever we could to spread the word about child trafficking and trying to figure out if we could do more to protect innocent babies I’ll always remember her heart, her love, her compassion her thoughtful gestures towards others. She was definitely for so many reasons a beautiful soul to always remember. Heaven gained an angel. I love you, KIMBERLY, rest in heaven. Prayer of comfort to all that know & loved her.
~ Kimberly & Jovan Gillette
Kim is my brother-in-law’s wife. I met her at a family gathering and she welcomed me with a smile, I’ll never forget it.
~ Yvette
Kim is my sister-in-law. Kim will be forever missed. She was a great sister to me since day one. I have a lot of great memories.
~ Rosilum
From Our Family
She had such a beautiful, welcoming smile that lit up the room. She made me feel so welcome when I first started working here! She will be missed!
~ Deirdre Giampietro
She has been my friend since 2004. Kim was 100% genuine and had a smile that could light up a room. She could turn your bad day into a good day. I loved the way she would always take the time to send an anniversary email to all of us employees and included all the board. She is missed every day and I know she is watching over us, some she might be haunting! LOL :)
~ Jessica Soto
I really appreciated how Kim was so welcoming and accepting to people. She was always opened to know new people and new experiences. She lit a room when she entered. I have found these things to be inspirational. I know she impacted so many people she met, and by us implementing some of her heart into our own lives, she’ll be living on through us."
~ Sabrina Padgett
The world is not going to be the same without her. May the Creator be pleased with your needs.
~ Patrick Sheffield
You know I loved her so much!
~ Cindy Campbell
For over 25 years, Kim and I worked together. We were side by side in the North Office in Humble as Community Managers in the early days. She joined the company’s Board of Directors in 2012 and we have been partners in that capacity ever since.
Kim was so much more than a coworker to me; she was a friend; and, many times, my partner in crime. She frequently encouraged me to join her on new and exciting adventures. We shared so many experiences: concerts, fun runs, conferences, festivals, theater productions, exercise classes, the beach, movies, and restaurants. We always had so much fun together outside of work.
I want to share a particular memory that always made us both smile. At one of our annual corporate retreats, the company board of directors traveled to the Northeast to see Ralph Troiano’s old stomping grounds. During that trip, we visited Boston, Portland, & Bar Harbor. While much of the trip was for working; Kim, as the designated trip coordinator, always threw in fun times no matter where we were.
One of the excursions she planned for us was to visit the Portland Head Light, a historic lighthouse in Cape Elizabeth on the shores of Fort Williams Park. There was a small beach on the property and we made our way to it. Ralph told us how cold the water was and without saying the actual words, he dared us to go in. My amazing friend decided that the two of us would absolutely meet the challenge. So, we did it. We rolled up our pants and walked into the sea. I clearly remember how Ralph was not wrong: the water was cold. It was the kind of cold that made you lose your breath. And we didn’t just stop at standing in the water, eventually, we jumped all the way in. It was exhilarating and fun and a very special moment. I loved every second of it and love who I shared the experience with.
This is just one example of how Kim could convince people to be spontaneous and try something new. It is just one example of a special moment shared with her. There are so many others. That one Prince concert – with Kim. My first visit to the Alamo – with Kim. My first cruise – Kim was there. Only visit to San Diego Zoo – with Kim. White water rafting – Kim made it happen. This list could go on and on. The bottom line: my life was richer because she was in it.
~ Laura Tate
I had the pleasure of working with Kim for the full duration of her 25 years with the company. I was also a part of many of the adventures described by Laura. I was there for their special moment at Portland Head Light. I did not go in the water, but I watched the joy on both of their faces.
The next year, we went northwest for our corporate retreat. Kim planned many fun things for us to do during our downtime. In Victoria, British Columbia we went to the beautiful Butchart Gardens and hiked up to the Gold Stream Tressel to reach the very high bridge over a gorge. Our second leg of the trip we visited Washington, where we met the famous radio host Delilah.
A very fond memory from that trip is our visit to Mt. Rainier National Park. We had an amazing day of hiking and seeing breathtaking views. And just like at Portland Head Light, we found a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that involved very cold water. Mount Rainier is home to many alpine glaciers. While you walk along the lower trails, there are streams made from the snowmelt of the glaciers. The water is ice cold, way too cold to jump in, but Kim still convinced Laura and me to fully experience the moment. Off came the socks and shoes and in went our bare feet. While it was brief, it was very memorable and resulted in some very entertaining photos!
These memories represent just a fraction of how Kim and Laura have impacted my life. Over the course of these years, our friendship has been a source of joy, filled with shared experiences, laughter, tears, and love. Kim is deeply missed and will always be in my heart!

When I first met Kim, I was very intimidated by her because she had ‘Executive Vice President’ next to her name. I realize now how silly that was. The first couple of months I worked at C.I.A. Services, I would often work past the end of my shift and Kim would message me asking if I was busy. I knew she was really asking if I could help with something; no matter what I was working on, the answer was always “no.”
Maybe this was Kim’s way of testing me because when her assistant took a leave of absence, she specifically requested me to fill in as her temporary assistant. Still very much intimidated by her, I forced myself to speak with her so I knew what she expected of me while I worked as her “temporary” assistant.
Two years later, we were a well-oiled machine working as a team to better the communities we managed. I was lucky that all of my parents taught me the value of hard work. Kim reinforced it and pushed me beyond what I thought I could do, never doubting for a second that I could handle whatever she threw at me.
Over the course of two years countless messages, emails, and phone calls were exchanged; five days a week. We bonded and without even realizing it she became a mentor to me.
One day Kim advised us that she was ill and that she didn’t have much time left with us. Unfortunately for us Kim was called home and has left us all with heavy hearts. It comforts me to know that Kim is no longer in pain and now reunited with her family.
I’ll forever cherish the two years we worked together as Kim taught me I can handle much more than I thought I could. She was always there, cheering me on.
My motto moving forward in both life and work, WWKD? You got this. Don’t take anyone’s crap.
~ Allie Bakeman
Kim’s vibrant spirit and unwavering dedication touched the lives of everyone she encountered. Her resilience and positivity inspired us all, leaving an indelible mark on our hearts and in our memories.
Beyond her professional excellence, Kim was known for her deep faith in God, which guided her through life’s trials and triumphs. Her unwavering belief was a source of comfort and strength to those around her, a testament to her remarkable character and unwavering spirit.
Though she may no longer walk among us, the impact of Kim’s kindness, wisdom, and faith will continue to resonate within our hearts and within the fabric of our team. May her legacy serve as a beacon of hope and inspiration, reminding us to live each day with purpose and gratitude.
~ Brandi Brack
I only had the privilege of knowing Kim for about a year, but even within that short time, Kim guided my professional and personal development. Each time I interacted with Kim, I was awed by her efficiency, knowledge, and most of all, her empathy. Kim demonstrated consistent compassion to everyone she worked with and represented as a community manager and company board member. Her mission undoubtedly centered around improving as many lives as she could. Kim spread her light through homeowner advocacy and service to our company.
Kim touched more lives in her time on Earth than most people could imagine. I am confident that she knew that she made the world around her better, even if she could not grasp the full extent; there is simply no possibility that someone could impact so many lives so richly and not perceive at least some of the positive changes they implemented. Everyone who came in contact with her was better for it. Kim will live on through her legacy of faith, kindness, integrity, bravery, and humor. Though she no longer walks with us, her spirit and acts will forever persevere.
~ Faith Padgett
Kim was always upbeat and had a positive attitude and loved sparkly things. She will always be remembered and will forever be missed.
~ Lee Sexton-Mendoza
Just a short note, but it is how I truly feel. I joined the company almost 7 years ago, and while I did not get to work with Kim every day, she helped me get enrolled in everything HR, you know all the little details that you didn’t know, you needed to know. From day 1, when I had questions, or I needed her guidance, she was always right there.
She was always kind to me; and when she spoke to me, you could hear that smile in her voice. There was always a smile, and a big hug when I saw her at company events or gatherings, and they always felt so warm and genuine; like you had just come home from a long trip, and your family was right there to greet you. She is missed, but we are all so very blessed, and our lives better, for having known her.
~ Valerie Flinn
Kim’s laugh and smile are part of the memories I treasure. She was a pleasure to work with. Kim was kind and compassionate. When I lost my husband, parents, and daughter in a short period of time, she took the time to offer kind words of comfort and encouragement each time. We would occasionally email about bible studies we were involved in and share verses. She is forever in my heart.
~ LeAnn Bruton
From Our Extended Work Family
Kim was a warm, charming, humorous, and intelligent person. For a good while, I spent the majority of my on-site support at the Southwest Houston office back around 2012 - 2013. Back then, there were about 30 or so people there. It was a great group of folks who she led and did so with such ease.
I always appreciated her easygoing leadership and my interactions with her.
The heavens have a new angel.
~ Jeff Miller, Network Providence
May her soul rest in peace. She was an amazing lady.
~ Samuels Lancelo, River Park on the Brazos board member
When a butterfly comes to you, I’ve been told, that it’s from someone in heaven, a past soul. If you keep a look out, if you open your heart, the things that were ordinary will now stand apart. My condolences.
~ Lindsey Sai, UKG
This has to be one of the hardest emails to send to the folks that loved Kim, working with her, and your team at C.I.A. Services.
I am so sorry for your loss, the company’s loss, and all the things that follow from this point forward.
My prayers are with you and all of those that loved Kim. As I’m working from my home office this morning, I’ve had at least 4 cardinals in my vision out my window flying by as the reminder of a loved one.
~ Christi Wells, First Citizens Bank
Kim was a great person and I am proud I knew her.
~ Gary Hayes, Landcare
Kim was an amazing person and I know she’s smiling down on all of us. All of you are in my prayers.
