Hockey Night 2020

Each year, we invite our community volunteers, employees, families, and friends to join us for Hockey Night with the San Antonio Rampage. We spend a fun-filled evening watching a great sport.

The 2020 Hockey Night will be on Saturday, March 21st when the Rampage will take on the Manitoba Moose at the AT&T Center. Hockey is a cool, fun, and fast-paced game. If you’ve never seen hockey in person, you are in for a treat!

Volunteer Spotlight

Lakeridge Home Owners Association Board of Directors
by Summer Smith

This month’s volunteer spotlight is a bit different than normal as it showcases not one volunteer but a group of volunteers; the Lakeridge Board of DirectorsThis board is made up of 7 volunteers: Sara Askey, Art Bobadilla, John Coates, Tyler Earle, Lee Ohl, Jason Parks, and Gene Zunker who all work very hard on making their community a fun, friendly, and family-oriented place to live. They celebrate National Night Out, have a Holiday Decorating Contest, and proudly donate to local entities such as the McQueeney Volunteer Fire Department and Friends of Lake McQueeney (FOLM). At last year’s National Night Out, homeowners enjoyed BBQ plates catered by a local company, J’s Primetime BBQ, chats with the Seguin Police & Fire Department who delightfully stopped by.  The Board also ordered custom Lakeridge HOA & C.I.A. Services cookies from Holmes Made Cookies for the residents to enjoy.

Lakeridge Home Owners Association is a tranquil established community of 172 homes and lots, located on the ever-so-popular Lake McQueeney. This hilly community offers waterfront property at the bottom of the neighborhood and larger more spacious lots towards the top. All owners are allowed access to the neighborhood boat ramp on Lake McQueeney. With no public access to Lake McQueeney, this makes for a very valuable amenity.

Lakeridge is a beloved community who was self-managed until they joined C.I.A. Services’ portfolio shortly after our expansion into the San Antonio market in 2008 – Mr. Coates was actually one of the board members to sign the original contract! We are honored to be the one and only management company to manage Lakeridge and are optimistic we will have many more years together. Congratulations to the Board of Directors, community volunteers and all members of the association – it is well deserved to be the March 2020 volunteer spotlight!

Living Our Core Values

Charles Driskell - Working with CERT

Our company holds high regard for our core values. Now that we have cycled through what each of our seven core values means to our employees in the past editions, the "Living Our Core Values" series will now share with you specific, real-life examples of how we live by our core values, either as an entire company or by an employee. We refer to our core values as "SPECIAL" as each letter of that word represents a particular core value. S = Stewardship, P = Passion, E = Empathy, C = Community, I = Integrity, A = Awesomeness, and L = Loyalty.

Charles Driskell is a Maintenance Coordinator at our San Antonio Office and is another example of a SPECIAL employee that executes our company’s core values. He demonstrates all seven of our core values through his continued efforts with the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT).

The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program educates passionate community members about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations. Using the training learned in the classroom and during exercises, CERT members can assist others in their neighborhood or workplace following an event when professional first-responders are not immediately available to help. CERT members are encouraged to support emergency response agencies by taking an active role in emergency preparedness projects in their community.

Charles has been a certified CERT member since 2007 and performs dangerous, yet rewarding, work year-round whenever disaster or tragedy strikes his area. Charles is a Steward in his volunteer work for CERT; supervising/assisting in times of crisis is a big task. He encapsulates the core values of Integrity, Community, and Loyalty just from being willing to help out the people around him whenever he is called to do so. Charles says, "it is a great way to assist the community in times of devastation," showing how Empathetic he is to those who face harsh destruction during a disaster situation. Finally, it takes a whole lot of Awesomeness to keep up all of this great work for 13 years! Thank you, Charles, for being an active and helpful member of your communities both at home and at C.I.A. Services, and for embodying all of our core values in your daily life!

If you’re interested in becoming a member of your Community Emergency Response Team, you can access information about the course here.
