Volunteer Spotlight

Jane Pauley-Flores of the Summit Mutual Amenities Association
by Valerie Flinn

Meet Jane Pauley-Flores. Her life as a volunteer reaches beyond her community to tens of thousands each month in the heart of the City of San Antonio; she is the Executive Director of the Historical Main Plaza Conservancy.

Jane has been a driving force behind the San Antonio Conservancy since its inception in 2007. She is responsible for all of the fundraising activities on the Plaza, including the Annual Fiesta activities. Jane has a very evident love and commitment to her community. Her volunteerism reaches to several other boards, most recently including the El Mercados Zona Cultural Steering Committee.

She is a proponent of higher learning and encourages the pursuit of education for the city’s youth through Mariachi Music Scholarships and has recently received recognition with the Pinnacle Award for the Best Education program. She has also worked with local Universities to provide internship opportunities for graduate students in the city.

Jane puts the same love and effort towards her community, The Summit, in San Antonio’s Stone Oak Area. She has been a dedicated and committed board member since 2004. She works hard to ensure that the fiduciary responsibility she carries for the community is given its due consideration and judged for the benefit of all, before acting. With her dedication and leadership, the community is now preparing to form a committee and begin the process to create a master plan for the newly deeded properties in the community. She has a strong vision of how The Summit can develop, including an area that will serve as a meeting point and family gathering place for the community. With her support and drive, we know this board of directors will make it become a reality.

Please join us in saying a very hearty ‘thank you’ for all that Jane does for her community and her city.

Living Our Core Values
Image

Priscilla Aleman

We are excited to bring to you another real-life example of how we live our core values. As you may know, we refer to our core values as "SPECIAL," and each letter of that word represents a particular core value. S = Stewardship, P = Passion, E = Empathy, C = Community, I = Integrity, A = Awesomeness, and L = Loyalty.

This month, we introduce you to Priscilla Aleman, the receptionist at our Southwest Houston Office. Priscilla is very active in her church community. She demonstrates Passion, Community, Loyalty, and of course, Awesomeness through her efforts with The Potter’s House Christian Fellowship Church.

The Potter’s House Christian Fellowship Church is a passionate, non-denominational church based in West Houston. Priscilla has been a member of this church for 32 years and has remained active year-round in numerous ways for the whole duration of her involvement. Every month, she teaches a Sunday School class to children ages 4-11. She also frequently works in the nursery to care for infants and young children while their parents attend service.

Additionally, Priscilla works with the church in reaching out to the community (both in Houston and globally) through mission trips and outreach programs to minister the good news of the Gospel. In Houston, The Potter’s House Christian Fellowship Church works with other churches to plan community events and create a larger sense of fellowship across the city. They have also visited cities across the United States, as well as many nations around the world. To name a few, they have sent mission trips to Mexico, China, and Spain. During these travels, the church hosts outdoor concerts, seasonal festivals, game nights, and more, to reach and inspire people of many different backgrounds, and spread their message of love and selflessness across the globe. In fact, the church recently opened a second location in Juarez, Mexico to continue to spread their message with more than just temporary trips out of the country.

Priscilla’s work with The Potter’s House Christian Fellowship Church is indicative of her immense passion for religion and helping not only her community, but the world, and we are grateful to be around someone as considerate and caring as her!
