Homeowners Associations thrive on volunteers and there are many volunteer opportunities available. The dedication and skills of volunteers are an invaluable commodity.

Which volunteer option is the right choice for you? Are you a born leader with fierce decision making skills? Consider a position on the Board of Directors. Was your home or vehicle recently broken into? Create a strong, active Crime Watch/ Block Captain Committee. Do you have a green thumb? Then the garden club, yard of the month or beautification committee is for you! Are you known for throwing outstanding parties? The Social Committee is a perfect fit for your talent.

Job Descriptions

Following is a summary of the role each officer may play on the Board of Directors; however, the board may elect to transfer some roles to the manager. For example, the manager may lead the meeting or take the minutes; however, the decision makers are the elected directors, not the manager.

President
The role of the President is that of a leader. The President typically presides over the meetings, keeps the agenda going and ensures sound decisions are made. The President leads discussions and ensures productivity. The President often signs legal documents such as loans and contracts and serves as a signatory for checks (payments).

Vice President
The Vice-President shall act in place of the President in the event of his/her absence, inability or refusal to act, and shall exercise and discharge such other duties as may be required of this position by the Board.

Secretary
The Secretary is typically responsible for the minutes of the meeting; however, the manager is often assigned this task and the Secretary signs the acceptance of the minutes upon board approval. The Secretary may also sign various legal documents such as contracts.

Treasurer
The treasurer serves as a signatory for checks and reviews the payables and financials. Management handles the daily operation of the financials; however, the treasurer serves as a checks and balance. The Treasurer also signs financial documents such as tax returns, audits or loans.

Committee Volunteers

Architectural Review (ALARC)
Architectural Review (ALARC) This committee reviews all home improvement applications for compliance wih the Architectural Guidelines & Regulations, as submitted by homeowners for new construction, repairs and improvements. 

Members must have an understanding of the governing documents as well as strong decision making ability. This committee is responsible for ensuring submissions are in compliance with the general design aesthetic of the community and blend with the natural environment. Members must be able to work within time constraints.

Environmental (ALEC)
This committee provides programs to protect our natural environment including our plants, fields and forests. The committee advises the Board of Directors on issues that arise pertaining to the environment. Members will work with experts in the field for guidance on the elimination of encroachment of invasive plants and the promotion of native species. Members will also advise on the avoidance of using harmful chemicals and sprays.

Social (ALSO)
Social (ALSO) This committee plans and executes community social events. Members will aid residents with their own events with invitation distribution, and work with committees to hold programs of interest to residents. An ability to work within a budget and deadline is necessary.

Communications
This committee will oversee the general communications to the residents. This may involve the publication of a newsletter or flyers. A nose for news, creativity, and strong written skills are beneficial for this crew.

Finance
This committee works with the Board Treasurer on special projects as they arise.

Fire & Safety
This committee will provide interface with the local volunteer fire departments regarding gate access, investigate methods of acquiring lake water for fire truck use, and estbalish protocols with the fire fighters fro finding reported fires.

Fish & Lakes Conservation and Management (FLCMC)
This committee provides programs that promote health to our lakes and fish. Members will work with experts in the field for guidance on fish growth, reproduction, water quaility, and the control of harmful invasive species. The committee advises the Board of Directors on issues that arise pertaining to fish and lakes.

Gates & Security
This committee identifies work needed throughout the community, and oversees projects and vendors for upgrades and maintenance of the community gates. Members will maintain the passcodes and logs for owners, vendors, workers, private home rentals, delivery vehicles and others with authorized entrance permission.

Medical
This committee keeps the community informed on the best practices for emergency medical situations.

Planning
This committee provides long term planning for the community including budgets and cost estimates for multi-year projects. These projects include, but are not limited to, the conveyance of common area, and the water and waste water systems.

Property Management
This committee identifies work needed throughout the community, and oversees vendors who maintain the grounds, tree removal, roads, drainage, gates, signs, limb pick-up, and trash staging and pickup.

Wildlife Conservation
This committee provides programs that promote a healthy environment to our natural wildlife. Members will work with experts in the field for guidance on animal protection and elimination of harmful behaviors toward wildlife. The committee advises the Board of Directors on issues that arise pertaining to wildlife.
