Homeowners Associations thrive on volunteers and there are many volunteer opportunities available. The dedication and skills of volunteers are an invaluable commodity.

Which volunteer option is the right choice for you? Are you a born leader with fierce decision making skills? Consider a position on the Board of Directors. Was your home or vehicle recently broken into? Create a strong, active Crime Watch/ Block Captain Committee. Do you have a green thumb? Then the garden club, yard of the month or beautification committee is for you! Are you known for throwing outstanding parties? The Social Committee is a perfect fit for your talent.

Job Descriptions

Following is a summary of the role each officer may play on the Board of Directors; however, the board may elect to transfer some roles to the manager. For example, the manager may lead the meeting or take the minutes; however, the decision makers are the elected directors, not the manager.

President
The role of the President is that of a leader. The President typically presides over the meetings, keeps the agenda going and ensures sound decisions are made. The President leads discussions and ensures productivity. The President often signs legal documents such as loans and contracts and serves as a signatory for checks (payments).

Vice President
The Vice-President shall act in place of the President in the event of his/her absence, inability or refusal to act, and shall exercise and discharge such other duties as may be required of this position by the Board.

Secretary/Treasurer
The Secretary is typically responsible for the minutes of the meeting; however, the manager is often assigned this task and the Secretary signs the acceptance of the minutes upon board approval. The Secretary may also sign various legal documents such as contracts.

Treasurer
The treasurer serves as a signatory for checks and reviews the payables and financials. Management handles the daily operation of the financials; however, the treasurer serves as a checks and balance. The Treasurer also signs financial documents such as tax returns, audits or loans.

Advisory
The purpose and main function of this committee is to inspect, evaluate and propose a plan of action on maintenance and other projects that are deemed necessary and essential to the betterment of Bridlegate Ranch.    It is the goal of the Advisory Committee to be able to provide the community with access to various skill sets that will provide knowledge and a hands-on approach to accomplishing Bridlegate Ranch goals while staying within budget.

Architectural Review
This committee reviews all home improvement applications submitted by homeowners requesting improvement to their home such as a new roof, paint or a pool. The Members must have an understanding of the governing documents as well as strong decision making ability. This committee is responsible to ensure submissions are in compliance with the general design aesthetic of the community and be able to work within time constraints.

Communications & Events
This committee oversees the general communications to the residents through the quarterly newsletter, email updates, the message board, Facebook, and the BGR website. Regular social activities are also planned and executed.  Communication skills, creativity, computer skills and the ability to work within a budget are beneficial for this group.

Finance
This committee provides financial oversight and advice to the Board of Directors.  They assist the Treasurer with the annual budget and long term financial goals and strategies.  They also evaulate proposed Reserve Account expenditures, monitor adherence to the budget, ensure that internal controls and procedures are followed, and assist in audits. An accounting or finance/budgeting background is required.

Nominating
This group is charged with locating willing candidates to run for election to the Board of Directors. This is a committee that does not require a constant commitment, just someone with a good judge of character and a bit of social skill to hunt them out.

Parks & Recreation

This Committee monitors the Bridlegate amenities.  They are responsible for the upkeep and functionality of all the rental units in order to insure that they are comfortable, clean, and in good condition for renters.  They also maintain and update the POA Rules and Regulations.  No special skills are required.

Safety
This committee maintains safety awareness for residents through signage, periodic safety meetings, newsletter articles, emails and the Safety Facebook page.  They bring safety issues to the attention of the Board and Bandera County Safety officials, provide safety welcome packets to new residents and maintain 911 phones and smoke detectors in the amenities.  Good communication skills are a plus.

Utilities
This Committee is the communication vehicle between the various utilities in Bridlegate and the property owners.  They will advise and/or make recommendations to the Board of Directors and assist in addressing utility problems that affect Bridlegate.  They also provide information on issues of resource mangement and conservation within Bridlegate.  No special skills are required.

Landscape/Beautification
This committee works with the contracted landscape company and Board to ensure the common area landscape is well maintained. The committee may assist with color and plant selection of seasonal installations or simply monitor the service provider to ensure the grounds are well maintained. The committee will communicate to the board should a need for improvement be necessary and work on design specs for new proposals. The committee may also assist with the spec preparation and interviews of new grounds companies if necessary. An ability to read and understand service contracts is necessary.

Yard of the Month
This committee often functions from April to September and is responsible for selecting the monthly winners and maintaining a database of prior winners. An eye for beauty will help this committee succeed.
