Job Descriptions
Following is a summary of the role each officer may play on the Board of Directors; however, the board may elect to transfer some roles to the manager. For example, the manager may lead the meeting or take the minutes; however, the decision makers are the elected directors, not the manager.
President
The role of the President is that of a leader. The President typically presides over the meetings, keeps the agenda going and ensures sound decisions are made. The President leads discussions and ensures productivity. The President often signs legal documents such as loans and contracts and serves as a signatory for checks (payments).
Vice President
The Vice-President shall act in place of the President in the event of his/her absence, inability or refusal to act, and shall exercise and discharge such other duties as may be required of this position by the Board.
Secretary
The Secretary is typically responsible for the minutes of the meeting; however, the manager is often assigned this task and the Secretary signs the acceptance of the minutes upon board approval. The Secretary may also sign various legal documents such as contracts.
Treasurer
The treasurer serves as a signatory for checks and reviews the payables and financials. Management handles the daily operation of the financials; however, the treasurer serves as a checks and balance. The Treasurer also signs financial documents such as tax returns, audits or loans.
Director at Large
With a five member Board, one of the Board members may not have officer responsibilities. That doesn’t mean they devote any less time to the committee business. All board members are part of the discussions and the decision making process. All board members spend time outside of meetings communicating with the neighbors and preparing for handling community business.

This committee is responsible to ensure submissions are in compliance with the general design aesthetic of the community and be able to work within time constraints.
Landscape/Beautification
This committee works with the contracted landscape company and Board to ensure the common area landscape is well maintained. The committee may assist with color and plant selection of seasonal installations or simply monitor the service provider to ensure the grounds are well maintained. The committee will communicate to the board should a need for improvement be necessary and work on design specs for new proposals. The committee may also assist with the spec preparation and interviews of new grounds companies if necessary. An ability to read and understand service contracts is necessary.
Crime Watch / Block Captain
This committee maintains strong communication between the residents and law enforcement. The Block Captains are responsible for maintaining a communications database of neighbors within a specified range. Communication and organization skills are necessary to ensure success.
Communications (Newsletter)
This committee will oversee the general communications to the residents. This may involve the publication of a newsletter or flyers. A nose for news, creativity, and strong written skills are beneficial for this crew.
