GBRA/FOLM - Lake Update June 23, 2018

GBRA has set the schedule to begin repairs of the dam and spillways for Lake McQueeney the week of July 23, 2018.

In April, the lake level was lowered for one day to identify submerged items that could be a hazard with the lower lake level. Starting the week before the project, GBRA crews will begin to deploy bouys at the locations identified. Click here to see GBRA press release.

Lake users need to be prepared for the lake elevation to be lowered by 18-24 inches beginning Monday, July 23, 2018. Please contact GBRA directly if you have any questions or concerns. Contact: Ja’Nise Solitaire, (830) 379-5822, jsolitaire@gbra.org

Lake McQueeney Dam Repairs

Lake McQueeney Dam Repairs

From your Friends of Lake McQueeney Board of Directors:

FOLM continually works with GBRA (Guadalupe Blanco River Authority) to improve conditions on the lake. GBRA has begun repair activities on area lakes, spill gates, and dams to address critical components that are in need of immediate repair. Due to the nature of these repairs, a strict timetable of work expected for each spill gate has not been feasible, but work is expected to take at least six months at each dam.

Based on the current progress, GBRA believes repairs at Lake McQueeney will begin as soon as the end of May. To assist affected property owners in planning for lowered lake levels, GBRA will begin lowering the lake on Tuesday, May 29, 2018. The lake level is expected to be down 18-24 inches for the duration of the repair activities. The main river channel should be available for activity. We appreciate your understanding of the situation.

Regional Emergency Alert Network (REAN)

Regional Emergency Alert Network (REAN)

If there is a significant natural or man-made emergency in your area – flood, tornado, hazardous material spill, etc. – local officials have the ability to send messages to all standard voice and text communication devices you register making you aware of the situation and giving you instructions on how to respond by using a “Alert” emergency call-out system.

The tri-county area of Guadalupe, Comal, and Bexar Counties have improved the system and now you can register your cell phone, pager, and/or email accounts so that your mobile contact information is included in the 911 database and you can receive emergency notifications via almost any mobile device. If you would like alerts relevant to your home address, work, school, or even the home of a relative in the tri-county area, you can create a separate registration for each address and receive emergency notifications for those specific areas. You can find more information about this program on the Guadalupe County webpage or register using this link.
