Summerwood Community Association
Summerwood Community Association

There are several ways to describe the Summerwood community and one always jumps to mind first: beautiful. With numerous amenities, including lakes, nature trails, two swimming pools, a splash pad, two clubhouses, tennis courts, volley ball courts and more, this home to more than 3,200 families is one of the nicest in this rapidly expanding area. With close proximity to Generation Park and new shopping and restaurant options opening, Summerwood residents enjoy the benefits of living in an established community combined with the conveniences of new commercial developments.

Another one word description could be said for the homeowners association: that word is successful. With a large group of dedicated volunteers, the Summerwood Community Association sets goals and successfully implements them. The last two years were filled with many accomplishments of which to be proud.

The newly expanded splash pad with the attached playground is one of Summerwood’s most loved features. Parents loved the new fence around the splash pad and playground and attendance grew. To help make it even better, an artificial turf was installed at the playground to replace the fall surface mulch. Not only did this help reduce how often the splash pad had to be cleaned but it also made for some happy parents thanks to no longer having to brush mulch off their children.

Thanks to the positive response to the play turf at the splash pad, the Board of Directors implemented a plan to install this product at all of the community parks. By implementing this project into the budget and with careful planning, the project is set to be complete this month. More and more Summerwood families are visiting the beautiful playgrounds and enjoying time outdoors.

Residents Central Clubhouse is one of the earliest buildings in the community. This functional facility has been used for many purposes throughout the years including the Home Finding Center, Welcome Center, management office, and now it is the home of the onsite community association office. This versatile facility also includes a fitness center and cardio room. The great room and kitchen are a popular venue for residents to host their parties and celebrations. While they were functional, they hadn’t been updated since the facility was built in the mid 1990’s.

That all changed in 2017. The facility got a whole new look that includes everything from repainting with contemporary grey, new furniture, window coverings, artwork and more. The kitchen got new custom cabinets, granite counter tops, new appliances, flooring and more. A custom backsplash feature wall can be easily seen from the great room through the newly installed pass through window with a custom sliding barn door. All of the light fixtures in the facility were converted to energy efficient LED lights.

A newly revitalized Beautification Committee is excited to continue the vision of a multi–year landscape enhancement project. They partnered with the community’s landscape management company, The Spencer Company, and created a comprehensive plan to address missing plant material by reworking, refilling and reinventing manicured beds. A tree reforestation project is also in the works for the fall of 2018 to help replace trees lost to weather, disease, and age. Summerwood is committed to making sure that residents and wildlife are able to enjoy beautiful and healthy plants and trees.

The volunteers, including the Board of Directors and many committees, continue every day to make a difference. Many thanks to the community volunteers that work to support these efforts!
